Inspired by the spiritual symbolism of Sufism—wherein “Qayaam” signifies the highest mystical state—Qayaam Gah presents a serene escape with breathtaking views of the Kashmir Valley. Set on three acres of wild nature in Srinagar, against a backdrop of the Zabarwan Hills high above the tranquil Dal Lake, the retreat’s interiors—designed by Altaf Chapri and Giovanna Gromo—blend traditional Kashmiri elements with modern elegance.

When we first came across the setting of what is now Qayaam Gah, it felt as if we had entered a sacred space that breathed tranquillity and emanated an atmosphere of peace and beauty. We realised that if there were to be a building here, it would not disturb what was already present but would only serve to cherish and reflect it. It was a reminder that God is always the best designer, and our role as human creators is to respect and mirror that perfection as best we can. So that is the function of Qayaam Gah: not to impose on, but to acknowledge, an already existing perfection.

Four villas and three suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor terraces that overlook Dal Lake and the majestic, snow-clad mountains. Guests can immerse themselves in nature through guided walks in the Zabarwan Hills, shikara rides on Dal Lake, and riverside picnics. The spring-fed infinity pool provides a refreshing space to unwind, while evenings are spent around the alfresco fire, enjoying superb local cuisine and live Sufi music.

Qayaam Gah offers an array of experiences that capture the essence of Kashmir. Guests can explore the historic Old City of Srinagar, visit the enchanting Mughal Gardens like Shalimar and Chashmashahi, and admire the vibrant Tulip Gardens. The retreat’s unique location and Sufi-inspired design create a tranquil atmosphere ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation, enhanced by morning yoga sessions.

Culinary offerings include local Kashmiri delicacies as well as international and Pan-Asian cuisines, ensuring a delightful dining experience. The soulful sunsets and dramatic mountain scenery provide a picturesque backdrop for romantic getaways, solo retreats, productive business meetings, and memorable celebrations.

Qayaam Gah is not just a place to stay—it’s a destination that offers a profound connection with nature, culture, and the serene spirit of Kashmir.
