Lamayuru falls on the Leh-Kargil-Srinagar Highway, and is known for its monastery and the incredible landscape that has earned it the label of "moonland." Take a beautiful drive from Leh along the Indus, and via some mind-boggling bends and expanses, Lamayuru comes as a fitting crowning end. The village is enchanting. But it is the landscape that will stun you. The Lamayuru landscapes can be classified under the geological term, badlands. Badlands are a type of dry terrain where softer sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils have been extensively eroded. They are characterised by steep slopes, minimal vegetation, a lack of substantial regolith, and high drainage density.
