It is among largest, highest and least populated districts of the country. Sandwiched between the Karakoram and the Himalaya, the mountain desert that is Ladakh is also home to breathtaking natural beauty. The rarefied air, the spectacular light and vastly clear skies lend this landscape of corrugated ridges and weather-beaten mountains a painted feel. Dominated by vast plateaus, deep river gorges, high mountain ranges and lakes stretching for miles on end, scale is the keyword here. To get a sweeping overview of the place, even if vicariously, is a thrill beyond compare. With an aerial vantage point, I had a perspective I could have only dreamt of before.
