The Dastangoi Collective, in collaboration with Bhagyam Arts & Ideas, presents Dastan-e-Nehru, a Hindi play that reimagines the traditional art of Dastangoi, a storytelling form rooted in Urdu literature. Once centred on Amir Hamza's epic adventures and flourishing in 19th-century North India, Dastangoi faded after the passing of its last master, Mir Baqar Ali, in 1928. Revived by scholars like S.R. Faruqi and Mahmood Farooqui, the form has found new relevance in contemporary narratives. Dastan-e-Nehru delves into the complexities of Jawaharlal Nehru’s life, exploring his ideals, contradictions, and the enduring legacy that shaped modern India. Written by Namita Singhai, directed by Mahmood Farooqui, and performed by Udit Yadav and Namita Singhai, the play is part of the ReflectSeries, a year-long programme of thought-provoking performances curated by Bhagyam Arts & Ideas. Produced by Anusha Rizvi, this production promises an evocative journey into Nehru’s era and its impact on the nation.

Catch the screening of Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon (2018), a cinematic masterpiece by Anamika Haksar. Blending documentary realism with magic realism, and weaving together true and fictionalised stories with poetry and dreams, the film is a poignant tribute to the rich, syncretic culture of Old Delhi. Through its vivid narrative, it captures the essence of a heritage slowly fading amidst the concrete and smog, offering a heartfelt love letter to the city’s history and spirit.
