Tourism is an important part of India's economy and, lately, it has been growing quite rapidly. In a recent update, Haryana is all set to introduce paragliding activities.
Recently, two paragliding flight tests were held to measure the probable outcome of this adventure sport in the region.
The tests, conducted at Morni Hills in Panchkula, were performed by professional gliders from the Border Security Force (BSF) team from Dehradun&rsquos BSF Adventure School.
The paragliding tests were conducted under the Shivalik Development Board.
The BSF team took the test flights from Bhori village situated in the hilly region of Morni Hills. The cliff is located at an elevation of 4,000 ft above sea level, and the BSF personnel completed their trial run on a plain surface in Palasar village.
During the trial run, BSF personnel identified four more launching pads for the adventure sport. That being said, the speed of wind and direction also plays an important role. The decision to introduce more launching pads will be taken later.
Morni Hills is the only hilly region in the state with some kind of high altitude. Introducing paragliding activity in a plain-dominated geographical region was an essential step for the tourism industry. Now people from Haryana can go paragliding in their state instead of going all the way to neighbouring regions like Manali and Rishikesh.
District officials also hope that introducing small adventure activities in its hilly region, like paragliding, will attract more tourists and create job opportunities for locals.
