Which Country Feels the Most Vacation Deprived

OT Staff

Scrolling through your Instagram and looking at your friends go on the most exotic vacations while
you sit at home and eat chips is not the most wonderful feeling. The good news is, you&rsquore not the
only one who feels this way. In a survey spread across 19 countries, people were asked about their holidaying habits and a whopping 53% of Indians responded with saying they feel deprived of
vacations. Pressure to perform well at work and replying to emails seems to be the driving force
behind this. Feelings of guilt and ideas of saving up for a &lsquobigger trip&rsquo seems to also play a role. Over 35% say their work schedule gets so busy that they don&rsquot even have an option to use their vacation days.

This troubling news comes from a long history of Indians prioritizing their work over their mental and physical being instead of taking a deep breath every now and then. The Expedia Vacation Deprivation Survey further throws light on the factors play an important role in their travel decisions. Following in India&rsquos footsteps are South Korea and Hong Kong, two more Asian nations who feel deprived of vacations. This doesn&rsquot seem like a coincidence. As recent as this year, about 68% of Indians cancelled or postponed their travel plans in favour of work and about 17% haven&rsquot taken a leave for the past one year. Whew.

Self realization, though, seems to be strong as about 55% recognize that this affects their
productivity at work. Let&rsquos just hope that this news awakens a need to take a break from work and
live a little, because as they say, the world is a book and those who do not travel, read only a page.
