Baku is Now Only a Stop Away

OT Staff

Your dream of a caucasian holiday might turn into reality sooner than you think. Azerbaijan Airlines recently announced the launch of direct flights from New Delhi to Baku. The first flight was scheduled for June 25. Starting out with two flights a week, the airlines has plans to add flights in this sector by October to support the growth and interest in tourism.

Azerbaijan is quickly emerging as a popular holiday destination for Indians. Several popular tourist attractions in Baku such as Ateshgah or Fire Temple serves as an example of the country&rsquos historical ties with India. The temple was used as a Hindu and Zoroastrian temple of fire worship in the 19th century.

Previously, flights between India to Azerbaijan were carried out through the Gulf countries. But this new route will depart from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and arrive in Baku via Terminal 1 of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Tickets can be booked online at www.azal.az&nbspor purchased through the offices of Azal&rsquos official agents. Flights will cater to both economy and business class travellers.

An added advantage is the ease of securing a visa. Azerbaijan allows Indians a visa on arrival with a simple electronic procedure. &ldquoIndia is a key market for us with immense potential due to the high number of international travellers and their growing interest in the region. From UNECSO World Heritage Sites, outdoor activities, to phenomenal shopping experiences, Azerbaijan offers the perfect landscape for Indian travellers of all types,&rdquo said Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of Azerbaijan Tourism Board.
