Delhi in Character

Vibrant yet subtle, dramatic yet sophisticated. All in all very Dilli, its a matter of how you see it

Author : Simrran Gill

I felt the icy Delhi air caressing my face after what seemed like an eternity. It was as though I was sitting in an auto for the very first time. Usually an auto ride in Delhi is a mix of rejection, haggling, partial agreement and ultimately driving to the destination. But today, none of that happened. This evening I was being all touristy in the city I call home, courtesy IHCL SeleQtion&rsquos latest offering, the Connaught&rsquos, Dilli Darshan

The hotel&mdashmerely a stone&rsquos throw away from the boisterous Connaught Place&mdashis luxury juxtaposed with art deco charm. Think sprawling lobbies, opulent chandeliers and a floor lined with rich green motifs. While the first floor sports conference rooms in soft pastel colours, the 104 rooms&mdashnone like the other&mdashare spread across the rest of the six floors. A bit of personal advice Opt for the ones at the back on the 7th floor for an unobstructed view of the Shivaji Stadium.

Even though my evening was spent in the bylanes of the city, the afternoon was under warm winter sun by the pool, followed by a hearty lunch at the &lsquoHub&rsquo, the doors to which conveniently open right next to the pool.

To appreciate the character, sophistication and all that the hotel has to offer, one definitely needs an eye for detail.

Pro Tip iI your taste buds are very Delhi, like mine are, opt for a selection of street-style snacks including gol gappas, aloo tikki, and papdi chaat. The all-day diner has also perfected the New York cheesecake which makes for a sweet and sumptuous ending
