If all goes according to plan, women travellers to Kerala will be able to choose from all-women tour packages where related services, such as accommodation, food, transport, community guides, etc. will also be provided by women. With solo or group travel by women on the rise, the tourism department of Kerala has initiated this &lsquoWomen Friendly Tourism&rsquo project under their Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission) umbrella. The focus will be on making travel safe and hygienic for women.

MoU between UN Women India and Kerala RT Mission

Recently, a one-day workshop was also organised under the project. According to media reports, Kanta Singh, UN Women India Deputy Representative, too reiterated the need for safe, reliable and hygienic infrastructure for women while addressing the workshop participants.
The media also reported that UN Women will sign a memorandum of understanding with the RT Mission for gender inclusive tourism.
As part of the initiative, the Mission will provide training to women at different levels to work as community tour leaders, story tellers, homestay operators, taxi operators, etc.
