Goa in monsoon is a place of beauty, though most domestic tourists tend to aim for the spring carnival or the New Year&rsquos Eve festivities. But the rains make the Goa greenery come alive, and this is also the time to do the &lsquorain dance&rsquo &ndash at the Sao Joao festival, which is celebrated all over north Goa on June 24 every year.
Sao Joao is Portuguese for Saint John the Baptist, and in these celebrations to honour the patron saint, all the young men of Goa, with flowers in their hair, jump into wells to retrieve gifts thrown into those wells by villagers.
