Though its the Manali-to-Leh drive thats most popular with tourists, the Ladakh region is dotted with many scenic roads that can turn into entire journeys by themselves. You could drive to the remote Zanskar Valley. In Zanskar, the trip from Sankoo to Kartse Khar is every bit worth the dirt track for a glimpse of the 1,200-year-old, 40-foot-high monolith statue of Maitreya Buddha, carved into a rock face of the valley.
