A frisson of excitement wafted in with the cold air as I touched down in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province in southwest China. Given the city&rsquos altitude (2,000m), I had expected the plane to land on a narrow airstrip, but was instead taught a lesson in Chinese architectural marvel. Kunming&rsquos $3.2 billion airport, which opened in 2012, is China&rsquos fourth-largest, and even the toilets in the swank terminal rivalled designer shops for sheen.
