A Natural Sanctuary In Eastern Maharashtra
Nestled in the southern part of Gondia district, Navegaon National Park spans an impressive 133.78 square kilometers in eastern Maharashtra. A statue of this mythical figure stands atop a peak overlooking the lake, symbolising the region’s rich cultural heritage. The name 'Navegaon' comes from the Marathi words Nave (new) and Gaon (village). Locally, the area is also called Navegaon Bandh (“bandh” meaning dam) because of the prominent water body. Predominantly inhabited by tribal communities, this region was once under the rule of the Gond kings. The park enhances visitor experience with an interpretation center, a small museum, and a library, alongside seven watch cabins and five towers designed for wildlife observation and photography.
