Bengal is known for its gorgeous handwoven sarees &mdash from the lightweight tangail and dhaniakhali cottons to intricate jamdanis, kantha, baluchari and Murshidabad silks. Handloom, also known as tant in Bengal, is one of the richest textile hand weaving traditions in India. In Bengal, saree weaving was first documented in Shantipur in the 15th century.
