Gandhi Memorial Museum

The Gandhi Memorial Museum, a historical building in Madhurai, used to be Rani Mangammal's palace from the Naick dynasty. In 1955, Tamil Nadu's state government handed this palace to All India Gandhi Smarak Nidhi to build what it is now - the Gandhi Memorial Museum. This museum offers a glimpse into India's independence struggle and the life of Mahatma Gandhi. It has an assortment of photographs, letters and personal items of Gandhi – including the blood-stained clothes that he wore when he was assassinated. Also, every year on Gandhi Jayanti, this museum organises a five-day programme to which renowned artists and speakers from around the country are invited.

Thirumalai Nayak Palace

Thirumalai Nayak Palace, built during King Thirumalai Nayak's reign in 1935, beautifully blends Dravidian and Islamic architecture styles. Apart from the palace's great architecture, which alone is so fascinating, they also conduct a light and sound show every day in the evening, which is worth watching. The palace can be divided into two parts - Rangavilasa and Swargavilasa. Apart from these royal residences are a queen's apartment, a theatre, a palace shrine, a royal bandstand, a pond, and gardens.

Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam

Madurai is home to some of the most beautiful temples, and Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam is one of them. This temple was built in 1645, during the rule of Thirumalai Nayak and dedicated to Lord Ganesh. This temple pond complex, which is related to Vandiyur Mariamman Temple, is just 2km from the Meenakshi Amman Temple. The pond is surrounded by granite stairs that beautify the space even more and is in the middle of a man-made island – used for religious practices. This temple has the largest tanks in Tamil Nadu and South India and receives its water supply from River Vaigai. Saint Mary's Cathedral

Saint Mary's Cathedral, a small chapel earlier – turned into what's now a very popular church in Tamil Nadu. This was declared a cathedral by Madurai Diocese in 1969 and is known as a Roman Catholic Archdiocese. Its Neo-Gothic style with vibrant window stains and towering spires and a blend of Roman, European and Continental architectural styles is extremely charismatic.
