Odisha's Similipal Tiger Reserve Reopens For Tourists

Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district is set to welcome tourists again from October 10, after being closed since June 12 for the monsoon season. This reopening allows nature enthusiasts to explore one of India's largest and most diverse national parks. However, some rules and guidelines are in place for visitors to ensure both safety and the preservation of the park's ecosystem.

According to reports, only 60 vehicles will be allowed into the reserve daily. To navigate the rough terrain, these vehicles must have a minimum ground clearance of 180 mm. You can enter the park through two main points: the Kaliani entry point (near Jashipur) from 6 AM to 12 PM or the Pithabata entry point (under the Baripada division) from 11 AM to 1 PM. But remember, all vehicles must exit the Kalikaprasad check gate by 6 PM. For safety, a local guide will accompany each vehicle to help visitors navigate and ensure wildlife protection.

If a vehicle breaks down inside the reserve, tourists will have to pay INR 4,000 to use a parked vehicle to complete their visit, reports further suggest.

Similipal is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to many species, including tigers, elephants, leopards, and unique flora. The park also features waterfalls like Barehipani and Joranda and offers trekking opportunities.

The best time to visit Similipal Tiger Reserve is between November and March, when the weather is pleasant, making it ideal for wildlife sightings and exploration. The reserve remains closed during the monsoon (mid-June to early October) to protect the animals and visitors. During the open season, you can enjoy the lush green surroundings, spot rare species, and get a closer look at the incredible wildlife Similipal has to offer.
