Speakeasies, also known as "blind pig" or "blind tiger," were a thing of the Prohibition era in America, when the sale of liquor was prohibited. Since giving up alcohol wasn't taken to by the folks, several illicit establishments cropped up where liquor was sold illegally. Across these saloons, people were also obligated to speak softly to keep the secrecy and their supply of alcohol intact. That's how the name "speakeasy" came to be. Cocktails and Dreams, Gurgaon 

Cocktails and Dreams is Gurgaon's favourite neighbourhood bar, with an extensive list of boozy creations. This is the perfect place to be if you like jazz and blues while sipping on a negroni. Do try scotch julep and breakfast bramble from their menu.

PCO, Vasant Vihar 

Another happening bar in South Delhi, PCO, has been on the list of Delhi's most-loved speakeasies for many years. Besides the decor, PCO comes closest to the original speakeasies in how they allow entry to guests&ndashthey send out a password, which gets changed every few weeks, to their list of patrons. Duronto Express and the scent of rain cocktails are a must-try from their exciting menu.

Hoots, Basant Lok Market 

Hoots is another Delhi bar to find itself on the World's Best Bars list. This dimly lit and unassuming bar is set right below the popular restaurant Perch. It may even be challenging to spot it as it does not display any signboard, but that's what is charming about it&ndashit's genuinely a discovery If you like classic cocktails with unexpected twists, go for their old-fashioned with a hint of wasabi.
