About The Nag Tibba Trek

The Nag Tibba trek takes you to the highest peak in the lower Himalayan range. Nestled between the stunning Dhauladhar and Pin Panjal ranges in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, this place is nothing short of magical. This moderate trek, rich in breathtaking vistas and the thrill of the great outdoors, typically takes two days to complete.

The Two-Day Schedule

Since this is a short two-day trek, you can plan it for any weekend. From Delhi, you can drive to Pantwari and then trek to Nag Tibba. This trek is suitable for families, so you can bring your kids along. The initial ascent is over rocky terrain, but soon you'll find yourself surrounded by oak and rhododendron forests. As you gain altitude, you'll be greeted by powdery snow in the winter. In summer, you'll see golden hillsides adorned with lush green groves. Eventually, you will reach the Nag Tibba base, which is home to a temple dedicated to the Nag Devta (serpent god), a site popular among locals. The peak itself is considered the home of this deity. Prepare for the final kilometer—a steep but incredibly rewarding journey. From the summit, known as Jhandi, you'll have a stunning view of the Bandarpoonch range.

Day 1:

Drive from Dehradun to Pantwari, then continue to Goat Village. From there, embark on an easy to moderate climb to Khatian. This gradual ascent follows a stone trail. The trek covers a distance of approximately 2.5 km and takes around two to three hours.

Day 2:

Start with a trek from Khatian to the Nag Tibba base, followed by a steep climb to the summit. Begin your journey early from Khatian and follow the trail that meanders through a dense forest. There is a brief steep ascent that lasts about 10 minutes. At Nag Tibba Base, you will find a large clearing with a temple dedicated to the Serpent God. From this vantage point, you can enjoy views of the Garhwal peaks peeking through the trees. After enjoying the views from the top, descend back to Goat Village and then drive back to Pantwari. The trek distance for this day is around 12 km, and it will take you approximately four to five hours.

Who Can Participate

First-time trekkers can embark on this moderate trek, although prior trekking experience is preferred. The trail ascends swiftly to an elevation of 9,915 ft. Good fitness is essential.

According to trekking specialists, you should have adequate stamina to jog five kms in 40 minutes without stress or 10 kms in 90 minutes without difficulty.

The nearest major airports for the trek are in Delhi, Dehradun, and Chandigarh. You can also take an overnight train from Delhi to Dehradun. Pantwari village is around 50 km by road from Mussoorie, and 85 km from Dehradun.
