The Swallows Line In The Jura Mountains

Mountains and valleys are prevalent in the eastern Jura area of France. It is similar to Canada, with its giant trees and meandering roads. However, this area is rich in history, particularly for being the birthplace of renowned microbiologist Louis Pasteur. A unique railway travels along what is known as the "Swallow Line" to navigate this rugged terrain. It is 120 km long, passes through 36 tunnels and 21 viaducts, and provides breathtaking vistas.

Nîmes to Le Grau-Du-Roi

The stunning tiny Camargue in the South-East is traversed by trains travelling from Nîmes, formerly a significant Roman stronghold, to the beach town of Le Grau-du-Roi. Admire the defences built around the city of Aigues-Mortes in the 13th century, and make sure not to miss the flocks of pink flamingos on the marshy plains. Between October and November, the fauna in the Gard region is exceptionally breathtaking.

The "Yellow Train"

The Little Yellow Train travels between Villefranche de Conflent, 50 km from Perpignan, and Latour de Carol, located high in the Pyrenees, not far from Puigcerda, Spain. The segment of the route from the beginning in Villefranche up to the little hamlet and ski resort of Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via is the most breathtaking. The route climbs up through woods, chasms, and gushing streams as it clutches the Tet Valley. Passengers are treated to spectacular views of the rugged mountainous environment, including towns and two medieval fortifications.
