The Asia+ Festival is one of Hong Kong’s biggest cultural events, running from September through November, and it’s perfect for travellers who want to experience the world in one city. The festival opens with The Cherry Orchard, a daring new take on the classic play by director Simon Stone, featuring top Korean actors Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo. Beyond theatre, the line-up spans the globe: you can feel the thunder of Japanese taiko drums, watch the passion of Argentine tango, and get swept up in the energy of Zulu music and dance from Africa. There are also concerts by international musicians and collaborations between visiting artists and local talent, giving the festival a fresh, cross-cultural spirit.
One of the highlights for many visitors is the Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances+, an outdoor carnival that fills the city with colour, dance, and music. Alongside performances, you’ll find exhibitions and themed activities that give you a taste of different cultures.
