Visit The Alluring Adi Kailash And Om Parvat Of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand, the picturesque northern getaway with its lush hills and verdant valleys, is also known as the abode of gods. Amongst the state's many temples and holy shrines, the Adi Kailash Peak and the Om Parvat are considered two of the holiest places in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.

Adi Kailash

Known as Chota Kailash or Little Kailash, the Adi Kailash peak in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district is the smaller model of Mount Kailash in Tibet. Elevated at a majestic 6,310 metres, Adi Kailash is also known as a trekking destination. Considered to be one of the five abodes of Lord Shiva on earth, this ancient holy place in the Himalayan range is revered by devotees of Lord Shiva. The peak is a popular pilgrimage for Hindu devotees and is a tranquil spot in the serene Kumaon region.

Besides that, Dharchula is the nearest town with more accommodation options and other amenities.

Pantnagar Civil Aerodrome is the nearest airport, while Tanakpur is the closest railhead. If you wish to take the road, there are several buses from Delhi to Tanakpur regularly in service and from there, you can hire a taxi to the destination.

Om Parvat

Om Parvat and Adi Kailash are nearby and share the same route up to the village of Gunji, approximately 90 kilometres from Dharchula. At Gunji, the path diverges into two roads, one leading to Adi Kailash and the other to Om Parvat.

Situated on the Indo-Nepal border in the Pithoragarh district near Dharchula, the peak is unique with its natural formation of the primordial sound Om, hence the name. The spellbinding view of the Om Parvat from Dharchula makes it one of the most sought-after destinations.

Know Before You Go

Pantnagar is the nearest airport to Dharchula, around 130 km, while Tanakpur, around 150 km, is the nearest railhead. Dharchula is well-connected, and regular state-owned buses are plying the route between Dharchula and other nearby cities. From Delhi, you can take a bus to Almora and hire a taxi or take a bus to Dharchula.

Great for Hikers

The route towards Om Parvat and Adi Kailash is picturesque and ideal for hiking. However, here's some great news for those not keen on hiking: vehicles can now reach the base of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. Adi Kailash, also known as Jyolinkong Peak, comes into view about 40 kilometres beyond Gunji. On a clear day, you can even see the shadow of Adi Kailash in the pristine waters of Parvati Sarovar. Om Parvat, on the other hand, is visible from Nabhidang village, located approximately 20 kilometres from Gunji. Additionally, Gunji is close to Kalapani, which is the source of the River Kali.

Passing by valleys such as the Chaundans, Bryans, and Darma valleys, on the way, you will also come across the Kuti village, believed to be named after "Kunti", the mother of the Pandavas, which devotees often like to explore. The pristine summit of the Annapurna peak also appears in all its glory, along with many beautiful lakes and rivers.
