Mahad, in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, is a town of historical, cultural, and natural importance. It was once a flourishing port, strategically located and surrounded by the Sahyadri mountain ranges. Three rivers—the Savitri, Kal, and Gandhari—flow through the region, originating from Mahabaleshwar, the hills of Mulshi, and Raigad Fort, respectively. Mahad holds an important place in India’s social history as the site of the 1927 Mahad Satyagraha, led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which challenged caste-based discrimination. Today, the town is known for landmarks like the Varadvinayak Temple, Gandhar Pale Buddhist caves, and its proximity to Raigad Fort, offering a blend of heritage and natural beauty.
