Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is said to be the oldest declared game reserve in India and the second-largest reserve forest in Goa. This sanctuary is where you can spot the elusive black panther. Sightings of over 30 hornbills have been reported just off the main road. Flying snakes glide over canopies while the elusive black panther stalks stealthily. Sloth bears, gaur, yellow-footed pigeons, and crested serpent eagles are sighted often, and rare and colorful hornbills feed on figs. You can sign up for jungle safaris that are arranged by the Kulgi Nature Camp. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is also a birdwatcher's paradise, boasting almost 270 bird species, with special mentions to the great hornbill and the Malabar pied hornbill.
