Galgibaga Beach

Often referred to as Goa's nesting beach, Galgibaga Beach is a sanctuary for the endangered Olive Ridley turtles. Known as Turtle Beach, it is one of three Goa beaches—along with Agonda Beach and Morjim Beach—where the state's conservation efforts for these turtles are actively and effectively implemented. The entire northern stretch of this picturesque beach serves as a nesting ground for these turtles.

This serene location is ideal for spending a few quiet hours in the scenic outdoors. You can bask in the sun on the soft sand or take a refreshing swim in the cool waters of the Arabian Sea. A long walk along the shore is also quite soothing. The beach features only a few modest shacks, offering a selection of drinks and snacks. To fully enjoy this charming, unspoiled retreat, consider renting a bike for an enjoyable ride across the beach and remember to bring your own swimwear and beach towel.

Getting there: Galgibaga Beach is situated along the banks of the Galgibaga River near Canacona in South Goa. It is approximately 40 km from Madgaon railway station and around 44 km from the Margao bus terminal.

Cola Beach

Cola Beach, a hidden treasure about 30 km south of Margao, is renowned for its unique location on a freshwater lagoon that opens into the Arabian Sea. Surrounded by coconut palms, the lagoon is a prime spot for bird-watching.

The beach remains relatively untouched, with only a handful of shacks providing food and drinks. Nearby accommodation options are available, making it an excellent choice for a quiet and serene escape. There are no beach huts or luxury resorts here—only charming bungalows and tents.

Getting there: Cola Beach is approximately 18 km from Canacona. Although there are no direct buses to the beach, you can take MDR49 to the Cola bus stand and then hire a cab, bike, or drive the rest of the way.

Cabo de Rama & Mobor Beach

Located at the southern tip of Goa, Cabo de Rama Beach boasts views and is named after the historic Cabo de Rama Fort perched on a cliff overlooking the shore. This fort has a rich history, having been occupied by Hindu rulers, Muslim armies, and the Portuguese.

The beach itself features golden sands and crystal-clear waters, perfect for relaxation or a stroll. A few shacks offer refreshments and snacks, and nearby accommodations are available. Getting there: Reaching Kakolem Beach is part of its allure. It is located in a sparsely populated area with no direct public transport. Private transport is recommended. Kakolem Beach is about 31 km from Margao and seven km from Cabo de Rama.

Benaulim Beach

Situated about five km from Colva Beach, Benaulim Beach is another hidden gem in South Goa. Renowned for its pristine waters and white sand, it is a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. The beach is also known for its local handicrafts, where visitors can purchase souvenirs and items crafted by local artisans.

Benaulim Beach holds cultural significance as well. It is believed to be the place where Lord Parshuram, a Hindu deity, settled after creating the Konkan coast. The Church of St. John the Baptist, a notable religious site, is located here.

Getting there: Benaulim Beach is easily accessible, located five km from Colva Beach and about six km from Margao. You can drive or hire a car or bike to reach Benaulim Beach from anywhere in Goa. The beach is well-connected by roads and offers ample parking space.
