"Because it has been a cloistered side valley, it had been relatively peaceful, but that is changing now," says Ojha. "I started working in that area in 1999 when I transformed an old house into a 10-room lodge. It was so pretty then, and it is still pretty," he adds. However, he laments the development and traffic jams: "The beauty of it has attracted so much movement that it has become detrimental to travellers."

According to Ojha, the ideal time for trekking in Jibhi is after the monsoon season. Autumn is considered one of the best times for trekking, he says. However, if you plan to trek the high passes, it's advisable to come earlier, as they typically close around September, Ojha adds.

Tips For Trekking in Jibhi

Ojha has some helpful tips for trekkers in Jibhi. "When you are trekking, make sure the company is recognised by the Government of India or by your peers," he says. "Don't venture out on your own if you are not an experienced trekker; take a trail guide. Be sure to ask the trekking company about their safety protocols for emergencies—how they handle various situations."

He also emphasises the importance of bringing back all your garbage. "Doing so helps ensure that your consumption patterns reflect environmental responsibility and sets an example that will go a long way."

Top Treks In And Near Jibhi

 Serolsar Lake Trek

You can embark on a trek to the breathtaking Serolsar Lake, a high-altitude gem located just 10 km from Shoja. Immerse yourself in the enchanting surroundings by camping among the lush forests that surround the lake. The spiritual allure is enhanced by a small temple dedicated to Buddhi Nagin, which adds a touch of mysticism to this already mesmerising destination. Serolsar Lake is situated 75 km from Kullu and lies at an altitude of 10,170 ft. The lake is surrounded by tall pine trees on all sides.

Ojha has some offbeat trails to recommend in this area of Jibhi. "From Serolsar Lake, there is a path that leads to Pathat, and along the trail, you’ll find some old forest huts. Alternatively, you can take the Serolsar Lake trek and then continue on a trail to Khanag. Another option is to head towards Khejwar; these are all lesser-known trails. Make sure to set off early in the morning."

Chehni Kothi Trek

The Chehni Kothi Trek from Jibhi is a moderate-difficult trek that takes you to an ancient tower-like structure, Chehni Kothi, in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The trek is a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and glimpses of mountain village life, including a unique architectural style called Kath-Kuni. The trek involves a seven km drive from Jibhi and a 1.5-hour uphill climb via Baggi (Sharinga Rishai Temple), passing through dense deodar forests and apple orchards. 

Raghupur Fort Trek

The Raghupur Fort Trek is a popular day hike with a moderately challenging experience. This three km trek takes approximately 90 minutes to reach the summit, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The trail winds through lush oak and rhododendron forests and is situated at an altitude of around 10,800 ft. The trek features a combination of uphill and downhill sections, with some parts being moderately challenging. Along the way, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the Himalayas and the Dhauladhar and Kinnaur ranges.

Choie Waterfall Trek

The Chhoie Waterfall trek starting from Jibhi is a popular and relatively easy hike in the Tirthan Valley. The trek typically begins at Nagini village and offers stunning views of the Himalayas and surrounding green valleys. It is approximately three kilometres long and usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete, depending on your pace.
