This International Women&rsquos Day, the Punjab government brought some cheer for women when it announced that they would now be able to travel on all government buses for free across the state.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh&nbsptweeted "I am happy to share that Punjab Government has decided to make travel free for women across the state in all government buses. We have been persistent in our efforts to empower our women and we will continue doing the same. Happy International Women&rsquos day to everyone."

The scheme is similar to the one in Delhi wherein women travelling in DTC and cluster buses are given pink tickets having face value of Rs 10 each. The government then reimburses the transporter based on the number of such tickets issued.
