Uttarakhand To Roll Out Online Permit System For Tourists Visiting Indo-China Border Areas

Tourists planning to visit the scenic Indo-China border areas in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district will soon be able to obtain Inner Line Permits (ILP) online, simplifying what has so far been a cumbersome process. The Chamoli district administration is set to launch a dedicated website, allowing travelers to apply for and receive permits from the comfort of their homes, rather than visiting the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office in Joshimath for manual approvals.

The ILP is a mandatory document for Indian tourists seeking to visit restricted border regions such as Mana Pass, Niti Pass, and Rimkhim, as well as other locations including Ghastoli, Rattakona, Jagraon, Devtal, Gotting, Gyaldung, Ganesh Ganga, Kyulang, 16 Point, and Parvati Kund. Until now, visitors had to present valid documents physically and undergo long wait times for approvals. The new system aims to eliminate delays and streamline the process.

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that the website, developed by HDFC Bank, is nearly ready for launch. Once operational, tourists will need to obtain certificates from the local police and health department before applying for the ILP online.
