Countries all over the world are coming up with new innovations to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest report comes from United Arab Emirates (UAE), saying that travellers arriving at Abu Dhabi will have to wear an electronic wristband. This is so that authorities can keep track on them, and check if they are maintaining quarantine rules in order to prevent any further outbreaks.

The decision was announced by Etihad Airways. The airline had already asked passengers to take a test for COVID-19 prior to 96 hours of their arrival at any destination.

After passengers disembark at the airport, they will pass through thermal sensors and test for COVID-19 once more. After all this, they have to quarantine for 14 days while wearing the electronic wristband. The latter will be distributed by officials at the airport. The band will keep track of your movements during your quarantine period. You have to get a negative COVID result on your 12th day if you want the band removed after two weeks.

The new wristband rule comes at a time when UAE is witnessing a second wave of coronavirus cases after they had dropped in previous months. On September 12, the country recorded the highest daily surge in cases since the outbreak of the pandemic, although the number of deaths is much lower than it was in the peak months of April and May.

UAE has introduced other innovative ways to contain the pandemic at airports, which happen to be some of the busiest in the world. Sniffer dogs specially trained to identify COVID-19 were dispatched last month to detect passengers with the virus while Emirates has promised to cover COVID-19 and quarantine costs for its customers
