Taiwan Considering Visa-On-Arrival For Indian Travellers

Taiwan is actively considering the introduction of a visa-on-arrival (VoA) policy for Indian citizens, a move that could significantly enhance travel convenience and boost tourism between India and Taiwan. Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang disclosed this potential policy change, recognising the substantial number of Indian travellers and the benefits of streamlined visa processes.

In a press briefing held in Taipei on Tuesday, Chung-kwang elaborated on the proposal, emphasising that the decision is still in the discussion phase and requires thorough consultation with Taiwan's Immigration Department. He pointed out that the government alone cannot implement such a policy; it necessitates a collaborative approach to ensure all logistical and regulatory aspects are adequately addressed.

"Indian citizens travel a lot," Tien noted. "We are considering this (visa-on-arrival). We are going to talk with the Immigration Department. The government can't single-handedly (do it); we have to discuss it internally."

Chung-kwang highlighted that the proposal is receiving serious consideration, reflecting Taiwan's proactive stance on enhancing both tourism and business travel from India. The visa-on-arrival policy could serve as a significant incentive for Indian tourists and business travellers, potentially increasing the flow of visitors and fostering stronger bilateral ties.

Current Procedure For Taiwan Visa

As of now, Indian travellers wishing to visit Taiwan must apply for a visa prior to their departure. Here are the documents needed to obtain a Taiwanese visa for tourism purposes:

• A completed visa application form.

• A valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank pages for the visa stamp.

• Recent passport-sized photographs (as per specifications).

• A copy of the flight itinerary or confirmed return ticket.

• Proof of accommodation in Taiwan (hotel reservations, invitation letter from a host, etc.).

• Financial documents proving sufficient funds for the duration of the stay (bank statements, pay slips, etc.).

• Additional documents depending on the visa type (e.g., business invitation letter, admission letter from a Taiwanese institution).

Submit the visa application form and all required documents to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India, which acts as Taiwan's de facto embassy. TECC has offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Pay the applicable visa processing fee. For a single-entry tourist visa, the fee is INR .3,800 (for express service: Rs.5,700) and INR 7,500 (for express service: Rs.11,300) for a multiple-entry visa.
