Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking its entry into the retreat hotel segment in the state of Sikkim. The 38-room property is located on a hilltop in Pangthang and offers unobstructed views of the Eastern Himalayas, with Mount Kanchenjunga visible from the resort.
Set amid pine tree plantations and natural mountain landscapes, the retreat has been designed for travellers seeking peace, seclusion, and a slower, more immersive travel experience. While the property lies within driving distance of Gangtok’s main township, its elevated location ensures a tranquil environment away from the city’s activity.
Commenting on the launch, Sumit Mitruka, Founder and Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said that Gangtok and its surrounding regions are witnessing growing interest from travellers seeking deeper engagement with nature and a strong sense of place beyond conventional sightseeing. He added that Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects the group’s evolving approach to destination-led hospitality in the mountains, where wellness, environment, and local context come together thoughtfully. The opening, he noted, strengthens Summit’s presence in the Northeast and aligns with its long-term vision of developing distinctive destination hotels.
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang features 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. All rooms include private balconies that offer uninterrupted views of the Himalayan landscape. Select suites also feature separate living and dining areas, making them suitable for longer stays.
In keeping with the region’s climate and sustainability considerations, the rooms do not include air conditioning or minibars.
Wellness forms a central pillar of the retreat experience. The property houses a dedicated spa offering specialised treatments, along with thoughtfully designed spaces for yoga and meditation. These facilities are intended to provide guests with opportunities for rest and rejuvenation, complemented by the calm surroundings and panoramic mountain views.
The retreat also features a multi-cuisine restaurant serving regional Sikkimese flavours alongside Indian and international dishes, as well as a sun deck overlooking Kanchenjunga. For events and gatherings, the property includes a banquet hall of approximately 5,000 square feet, with a capacity of over 500 guests, suitable for destination events, retreats, and intimate social functions.
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang is part of the Summit Signature Series, a category within the group’s portfolio that focuses on experience-driven properties with elevated design, service, and contextual immersion. With this launch, Summit Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its footprint in the Northeast, catering to leisure travellers, wellness seekers, and small groups exploring Sikkim and the Eastern Himalayas.
Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Siliguri, West Bengal, Summit Hotels & Resorts is East India’s leading hospitality chain and India’s largest leased hotel operator.
