Sri Lanka To Host One Of The Largest Indian Tourism Conferences

The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) will hold its 67th convention in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from July 6 to 9. The convention is being hosted after an 18-year gap, with over 700 attendees, the majority of whom are from India. The Tourism Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka is leaving no stone unturned in welcoming 50 notable mainline, electronic, travel, and OTT media representatives for the event.  

The event to be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall will highlight the topic of 'Futuristic Focus on Transcending Borders' and highlight Sri Lanka's status as a secure, convenient, and inviting destination for Indian tourists. 

The Agenda

The agenda includes discussions on India's tourism vision for 2047, the rise of experiential travel, the growing importance of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), and the ever-expanding digital opportunities in the travel industry. Industry experts and travel professionals from both India and Sri Lanka are expected to exchange expertise, develop new alliances, and create mutual growth as the convention progresses. This conference highlights the two countries' close ties and acts as a platform to foresee a flourishing future for tourism in the region.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe will launch the event, and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and other prominent dignitaries and delegation members from both nations will be present. Gopal Bagley, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, will make a welcome address, emphasising the importance of this event, providing a venue for networking and knowledge sharing among attendees from diverse countries. 

In May, Sri Lanka Tourism held a series of roadshows in several cities in South India as part of its ongoing bilateral and cultural ties with Indian counterparts. According to a news release, these roadshows aimed to promote the island nation's tourism attractions and industry opportunities. Chennai hosted the first road show on April 24, followed by Cochin on April 26 and Bangalore on April 28. According to the statement, the event focused on promoting a variety of tourism experiences while converting potential travellers to bookings and highlighting the positive message that Sri Lanka is available for leisure, business, and MICE tourism.
