Crystal blue waters, white-sand beaches, and breathtaking views...just what you need when looking for a spot for that destination wedding. The island country of Sri Lanka is working with the Indian government closely to start a travel bubble agreement for hosting destination weddings.

This was announced recently by Kimarli Fernando, head of Sri Lanka tourism.

In view of the coronavirus pandemic, Sri Lankan tourism is coordinating with health authorities to allow only vaccinated passengers in, who are then directed to take a PCR COVID-19 test.

Kimarli Fernando was a part of the Chairperson&rsquos Forum at the MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibition and Event) meetings, held in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Association of professional conference, Exhibition and Event Organisers (SLAPCEO).

The forum was held to explore how Sri Lanka could best cater to the MICE industry requirements worldwide through premium infrastructure, and with the help of the private sector, to help promote MICE tourism via bio-bubbles.

"Sri Lanka&rsquos aim is not to compete with countries like Dubai and Singapore," said Fernando. "However, to create a niche market where the offering of Sri Lanka is more of a distinct product in terms of location where individuals can visit Sri Lanka for a conference and then go on a safari in Yala, go whale watching and visit a tea plantation, all in a day if domestic flights are used to travel around the country.&rsquo
