SpiceJet, owned by the Sun Group, has cancelled over 1,800 flights across India. The sudden decision to cancel flights will not only cause inconvenience to passengers who had already booked their tickets but is also likely to create a sudden demand for tickets with the holiday season round the corner.  The extensive flight cancellations came at a time when the DGCA was contemplating issuing a show-cause notice to the airline for defying the DGCA's directives regarding advance bookings. The SpiceJet website has declared that 100 per cent refunds (without any deductions) will be given for the flights cancelled.
