Easter Eggs or A Work of Art

Italian pastry chef takes the world by storm with his specially sculpted Easter eggs

Author : OT Staff

While decorated Easter eggs are nothing new, a pastry chef from Rome has taken it to new heights by turning his shop into an art gallery showcasing sculpted eggs themed on works of modern artists,&nbspincluding fashion designers.

An egg crafted in yellow with deep slashes is a homage to Argentine-Italian painter Lucio Fontana known for his &lsquoslash&rsquo series or Spatial Concept among other things two men holding up heart, a recurrent theme, seen in the works of US pop artist Keith Haring a red dressed egg will remind you of a couture collection of fashion designer Azzedine Alaia or a brightly decorated one reminding viewers of the ground-breaking clothes designed by British fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Walter Musco, owner of Pasticceria Bompiani, located in Rome&rsquos Tor Marancia district, has been carving these eggs in various sizes for more than a decade and has decided to put them as part of an exhibition before Easter. He sculpts the eggs at his workshop in the basement, using 55 percent dark chocolate from France and puts the shells together much like a classic chocolate egg. Only then he starts turning them into works of art.

You can check out more of the designer eggs here.

Interestingly, the eggs and their decoration are edible but can also be stored for years (under suitable conditions, including away from light and heat). Also note, some of the eggs on display cannot be bought as these are being held on behalf of clients who have bought them but have not been able to visit the shop to take them away. Owing to the delicate nature of the artistic eggs, these cannot be sent by post.
