UK Shuts Down all Travel Corridors Temporarily

To prevent the spread of the new variants of coronavirus, UK has decided to shut down all travel corridors temporarily. From January 16, 2020 (4am local time) all UK corridors stand closed for travellers. Anyone entering the UK will be put under a mandatory 10-day quarantine and will also have to carry their negative test result for coronavirus. The test has to be taken 72 hours prior to leaving for the UK.

There is also a passenger locator form that has to be filled. Passengers will be required to produce the mentioned documents when the airline services asks them to do so. If they fail to show the required documents, they will be charged with a fine, as per the current regulations. One can cut short the isolation period by taking another COVID-19 test after the fifth day, in England and getting a negative result.

The new rules states that passengers travelling from Falklands, St Helena and Ascension Islands are exempt from this. And those travelling from the Caribbean Islands are exempt until January 21 from this protocol.

After a new variant was identified in Brazil, UK has temporarily banned passengers from South America, Portugal and Cape Verde. 

The regulations that were imposed on England, earlier this month, will remain in place, requiring all residents to stay at home. There is a very limited set of reasons, under which travel will be permitted.
