Pokhara Declared Nepal's Tourism Capital, To Remain Open 24/7

In a significant move for Nepal's tourism sector, the government officially declared Pokhara the country's tourism capital during a ceremony held at the Barahi Ghat on March 17. Presided over by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', the event was marked by musical performances by celebrated artists, symbolising the region's cultural richness.

Pokhara, nestled in the Gandaki province, has long been hailed as a tourism hotspot. However, its elevation to the status of tourism capital comes after meeting rigorous criteria set by the authorities. Pokhara Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya expressed optimism that this designation would propel Pokhara to international acclaim, solidifying its position as a premier destination on the global stage.

In a bid to enhance visitor experiences, it was further revealed that Pokhara would now embrace round-the-clock operations for various businesses. Effective immediately, establishments, including discos, nightclubs, and live music venues, will operate without time constraints.

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey emphasised that eateries, bars, spas, grocery stores, and snack shops in key areas like Lakeside, Prithvi Chowk, Mahendrapul, and Chipledhunga will extend their services until 1 am, adhering to specified standards to ensure quality and safety.
