PM Modi Inaugurates Integrated Terminal Building At Port Blair Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the highly anticipated integrated terminal building at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair. The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 18, marking a significant milestone in the government's commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure. The ceremony was attended by government officials, stakeholders, and the public, who eagerly witnessed the unveiling of this remarkable addition to the Port Blair airport.

Enhancing Connectivity and Transforming Infrastructure

The new terminal building is set to enhance connectivity and transform the transportation infrastructure of Port Blair. Constructed at approximately INR 710 crore, the integrated terminal building is designed to accommodate around 50 lakh passengers annually. It covers an expansive area of approximately 40,800 square meters and includes an apron suitable for two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321-type aircraft, allowing for the parking of up to 10 aircraft at a time.

Sustainability and Economic Boost

The architectural design of the terminal building draws inspiration from a seashell, symbolizing the surrounding sea and islands. In addition to its visually appealing design, the terminal incorporates sustainable features. These include a double-insulated roofing system to reduce heat gain, strategically placed skylights to maximize natural light, LED lighting, and low heat gain glazing. The terminal also includes a rainwater catchment system, an on-site sewage treatment plant, and a 500 kW solar power plant, ensuring minimal negative impact on the islands' environment.

Port Blair attracts many tourists each year as the gateway to the pristine Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The spacious integrated terminal building is expected to boost air traffic and facilitate seamless travel experiences for visitors. Furthermore, it will create employment opportunities for the local community and contribute to the region's economy.

The inauguration of the integrated terminal building reflects India's dedication to fostering connectivity and sustainable development. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the government's ongoing efforts to modernize transportation infrastructure nationwide.
