The severe thunderstorms that were witnessed across North India on Friday, 29th of May,&nbspleft the Taj Mahal in a state of minor disrepair.
The heavy downpour resulted in damage to several parts of the compound, including a&nbspsandstone railing part of the original structure of the monument, the base stone of the main&nbspgate, and a marble railing which was a newer addition.

A false ceiling in a waiting area for&nbsptourists also collapsed, as was detailed by Vasant Kumar Swarnkar of the Archaeological&nbspSurvey of India while speaking to AFP.&nbspNo damage was dealt to the main structure of the historical mausoleum.&nbspThe Taj Mahal, one of the seven Wonders of the World and one of India&rsquos biggest tourist&nbspdraws, has remained shut since March on account of the nation-wide coronavirus lockdown.&nbspLuckily, all damages to the parts of the monument have been described as minor.
