The Uttarakhand forest department has implemented an INR 50 entry fee per person for the eco-tourism spots Tiffin Top and China Peak in Nainital district. According to Nainital Divisional Forest Officer Chandrashekhar Joshi, this fee will help fund cleanliness and solid waste management efforts.

When contacted, Joshi also said, "People have complained about garbage, including waste plastic, in these areas. We have issued tickets for better management of these places' cleanliness."
Former Uttarakhand chief secretary and Nainital resident Indu Pandey raised concerns on social media, arguing that the fee could discourage nature lovers from visiting these locations. Pandey indicated his intention to discuss the issue with state government officials. He also noted that 'China Peak' attracts few visitors due to the challenging trek to the summit.

About Tiffin Top And China Peak
Tiffin Top, also known as Dorothy's Seat, is a popular viewpoint located about 4 kilometres from the heart of Nainital. Perched at about 2,292 meters, it offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. The spot was named in memory of Dorothy Kellet, an English artist, and has since become a favourite among tourists for picnics, photography, and hiking. The trail leading to Tiffin Top is lined with lush deodar, oak, and pine forests, providing a refreshing escape from urban life.

China Peak, also known as Naina Peak, is the highest point in Nainital, at 2,615 meters. It is approximately 6 kilometres from the town centre. The trek to China Peak is quite challenging, requiring a good fitness level, but the effort is well rewarded with stunning views of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges and the sparkling Naini Lake below. The peak offers a tranquil environment with dense forests and rich biodiversity, making it a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers.
Getting There: Reaching Tiffin Top involves a 4-kilometer hike through forests from Nainital. China Peak, the highest point in Nainital, requires a challenging 6-kilometer trek.
