New Waste To Art Park In Delhi Honours G20 Nations

Delhi has unveiled yet another artistic gem that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of the upcoming G20 Summit. In the heart of Chanakyapuri, the New Delhi Municipal Council has breathed life into the city's fourth waste-to-art-themed park. A picturesque oasis of creativity, this park serves as a tribute to the participating nations, featuring sculptures and art installations crafted from scrap metal.

The G20 Park in Chanakyapuri not only celebrates the spirit of the summit but also pays homage to the national birds and animals of the participating countries. Sculptures, meticulously handcrafted from discarded metal, stand tall as tributes to the wildlife of the G20 nations. These gorgeous creations transform waste into art, embodying the essence of resourcefulness and sustainability.

Lieutenant Governor VK attended the inaugural ceremony and emphasized the ongoing efforts to illuminate every nook and corner of Delhi with beauty. Union Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, echoed this sentiment and extended her appreciation to the talented artists behind this project. The role played by artists from the Lalit Kala Academy, a cultural arm of the Ministry of Culture, was significant in bringing these installations to life. This initiative not only celebrates art but also conveys a powerful message about responsible resource management through the lens of waste-to-art.

The Sculptures

In collaboration with the Lalit Kala Academy, the NDMC has created 22 sculptures, each a work of art meticulously crafted from scrap metal. These sculptures represent the national animals and birds of the G20 member countries, a fitting tribute to their participation in the upcoming summit. The park will open its gates to visitors on the eve of the G20 summit, allowing them to bask in the beauty of these eco-conscious creations.

Each sculpture in the park tells a unique story of transformation. Artists have ingeniously repurposed discarded iron bars, automobile parts, metal plates, wire mesh, rims, chains, bearing balls, and other discarded materials into magnificent representations of wildlife. Visitors can admire sculptures that pay homage to the national animals and birds of countries like the USA (bison), Brazil (jaguar), China (red-crowned crane), Saudi Arabia (Arabian camel), South Korea (magpie), France (rooster), Turkey (redwing), Italy (sparrow), Australia (emu), and India (peacock), among others. The Waste to Art Park in Chanakyapuri stands as a testament to human creativity and environmental responsibility.
