The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued new guidelines for international travellers due to the spread of new and different variants of the coronavirus. The guidelines will be enforced from February 23.

The South African coronavirus strain has been found in four people in India, while the variant from Brazil has been detected in one person. In light of these developments, the government has decided to implement the new guidelines.

The ministry said in a statement that it is mandatory for all international flyers to submit a self-declaration form for COVID-19 on the online Air Suvidha portal.

They will also be required to upload a negative RT-PCR test report that has been conducted 72 hours before travel.

Travel history of passengers from the UK, Europe and the Middle East will be taken for the last 14 days, along with mentioned requirements. They will be required to undergo a self-paid confirmatory molecular test upon arrival. Their phone numbers and addresses on the self-declaration form will be verified. The only exception will be made for people travelling because of a death in the family.

If the test results of passengers from the UK, Europe and the Middle East are negative, they will be put under home quarantine for seven days. The ones that test positive will be taken to isolation units.

The statement further adds that additional requirements in terms of testing, quarantine and isolation may be considered as per risk evaluation. However, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will have to be informed before taking other measures.
