Queen of Hills to get a New Gift Soon

One of northern India's most popular hill stations, Mussoorie will soon have a two-lane tunnel to ease traffic and convenience tourists and locals. Due to natural beauty, it receives thousands of tourists every year. This results in traffic jams and inconvenience to the visitors. It also affects the local residents too.

To tackle this problem, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari recently approved the construction of a 2.7-km-long, two-lane tunnel connecting Mussoorie town, the Mall Road and the LBSNAA (Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration). The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 700cr, and for this project, a project management consultancy has been appointed.

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Tirath Singh Rawat, too, welcomed the decision.

This charming town of Mussoorie, along with its calmer and lesser-known sibling Landour, are home to many beautiful attractions. It was also one of the favourite summer retreats of the British, much like other cantonment-style former sanatoriums that now serve as easily accessible therefore have many British-era buildings. Tourists make it a point to visit Happy Valley, George Everest House, Mall Road, Company Garden, Kempty falls, Mussoorie Lake etc when they come here.

From the point of view of those who love to visit the hill station over and over, this is the second major development announced this year after the announcement of a new six-lane expressway between Delhi and Dehradun&mdashthe nodal point for tourists from Delhi NCR to Mussoorie&mdashthat will cut travel time from the current 6.5-7 hours to just 2.5 hours. This development, which has been given a deadline of 2023, in addition to the recently announced tunnel project, will surely mean even more holidayers will throng the streets of Mussoorie.
