Mumbai is set to unveil its first-ever bird park in Nahur, a project by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Slated for completion by 2027, this park is a recreational space and a step towards wildlife conservation in the urban landscape.
According to reports, the bird park, spread across 17,150 square meters, is designed to offer an immersive ecological experience. Visitors can explore various zones featuring birds native to Africa, Australia, and the USA, with habitats recreated to mimic the regions they come from.
The park will be divided into zones representing Africa, Australia, and the USA. Each zone will house bird species from these regions, providing an up-close encounter with diverse avian life in settings that feel like their natural habitats.
22 species of birds will live here, including exotic varieties like black swans, toco toucans, and white peafowl. Birds will be acquired through exchange programs and transfers from the Byculla Zoo.
The bird park isn’t just about birdwatching. It will offer a mix of nature and fitness activities for visitors of all ages:
Jogging Tracks: Perfect for morning and evening runs.
Sports Facilities: Includes basketball, volleyball courts, and a sporting arena.
Interpretation Center: Learn about birds, their habitats, and conservation through interactive exhibits.

The project, estimated to cost INR 100 crore, has already secured approval from the Central Zoo Authority. The final layout permissions are underway, after which the tendering process will begin.
This bird park is set to be a significant addition to Mumbai’s urban fabric. Combining education, recreation, and conservation promises to become a must-visit destination for locals and tourists.
