Ministry of Tourism Organises Trekking Training Course In Ladakh

Tourism ministry has organised the first of its kind trekking training programme for locals in Ladakh

Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquos vision to develop Ladakh as a leading tourist destination, Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg in collaboration with Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (IITTM) and Ministry of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Prahlad Patel has organised an adventure tourism trekking course.

The 10-day course aims to provide a formal training in mountain trekking to the local youth and give them hands on experience. The participants are expected to undergo a briefing following which they&rsquoll cover areas like Spithuk, Zinchen, Rumbak, Stok La and then return to Leh.The first batch started on September 24, 2019 and over 30 local youngsters were enrolled. The Ministry plans to train 90 local youths over three batches.

The training programme is expected to be completed by October 12, 2019. The objective is to develop basic trekking skills among the local youth so that they can seek employment as a tour guide and use these skills to become entrepreneurs in the field.
