Live the Versace life

The opulent home of the late Italian designer Gianni Versace has reopened as The Villa by Barton G, a boutique hotel with a 24-carat gold-plated thousand mosaic pool

Fourteen years after designer Gianni Versace was shot dead at the front door, his house, Casa Casuarina, has been opened to the public. Not as a museum, mind you, though there is much inside that is museum-worthy. The property opened its doors in March as the luxury boutique hotel The Villa by Barton G. The building more or less remains the way it was when Versace lived there, although some adaptations have been made. Take a dip in the 24-carat gold-plated thousand mosaic swimming pool, dine on china designed by Versace, and if you want to sleep on the 9-feet-wide double king-size bed that Versace slept on, just ask to be booked into the Villa Suite ($2,200 per night thevillabybartong.com).
