LG Sinha Advocates For Wildlife Conservation In Jammu and Kashmir

In a recent development, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, took a proactive stance in elevating awareness about wildlife conservation across the region. The LG chaired the 5th meeting of the Wildlife Board for the Union Territory, focusing on crucial strategies for sustainable biodiversity management and the holistic development of wildlife habitats.

Accompanied by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Sinha emphasised the imperative to raise awareness for the safeguarding and conservation of the region's valuable wildlife resources. He issued directives to initiate promotional activities, strategically placing them in major public spaces to highlight significant projects, such as the Jambu Zoo.

During the meeting, Sinha evaluated the proposal for the expansion of Jambu Zoo and sought updates on implementing previous directives. The agenda covered various projects, including the Kandori Ski Lift in Gulmarg Wildlife Sanctuary, the construction of Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management Centre at Bahu Conservation Reserve Jammu by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, the Chhat Zorawar Operational Track, procurement of vehicles for Man-Animal Conflict Management, water supply schemes, and road projects.

Sinha also inaugurated the Wildlife Office Complex at Raj Bagh Srinagar. Additionally, he unveiled a Coffee Table Book and a short film shedding light on Jambu Zoo. He also released a report on the Biodiversity Assessment of Wild Fauna (Mammals, Birds, and Butterflies) and Flora in Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary Kathua, J&K. Furthermore, a booklet titled "Conservation Triumph-2024," focusing on Kashmir's Wetland Conservation Reserves, was presented.
