Situated in Kerala, the idyllic coastal areas of Kannur have been experiencing rough seas, prompting authorities to take necessary measures to ensure public safety and mitigate risks. Temporary Ban on Beach Tourism Activities

Amidst the current challenging conditions, the District Disaster Management Authority has taken decisive action by instructing the District Tourism Promotion Council to enforce a temporary suspension of beach tourism activities across multiple tourist destinations within the district. This precautionary measure aims to prioritise public safety and mitigate potential risks associated with the rough seas and adverse weather conditions in coastal areas.

Dismantling of Muzhappilangad Floating Bridge

As a precautionary measure, the District Tourism Promotion Council has initiated the dismantling of the Muzhapilangad floating bridge. Additionally, locals are being advised to exercise caution if they intend to visit coastal areas during this period of heightened risk.

INCOIS Findings on High Waves

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has conducted an analysis attributing the formation of exceptionally high waves, reaching heights of up to 11 metres, along the Kerala coast to the emergence of a low-pressure system advancing into the Indian Ocean. This finding underscores the significant influence of atmospheric phenomena on coastal conditions and emphasises the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness measures in coastal regions prone to such occurrences.
