Kashmir's Tourist Footfall Surges Post-Pandemic

Kashmir, often referred to as "Paradise on Earth," captivates travellers with its unparalleled natural beauty. This picturesque destination is a true testament to nature's grandeur. Tourists come from everywhere to see the beauty of Dal Lake and enjoy the enchanting Shikara rides, the houseboats on its pristine waters and the many lush valleys, dense forests, and meadows adorned with vibrant flowers. 

A Post-Pandemic Phenomenon

As a travel destination, Kashmir has been getting a considerable footfall of tourists, with these numbers having been on an upward tick ever since the pandemic, according to reports. To bank on the rising number of travellers, the Hotel Association of India (HAI) presented an ambitious 25-year roadmap setting its sights on the region's future for Kashmir's hospitality and tourism industry. "Vision 2047" is a visionary roadmap that paints a vibrant future for Kashmir in the realm of hospitality and tourism.

Amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, Kashmir has reclaimed its position as a coveted travel destination. The report underscores the growing allure of Kashmir among travellers, especially for adventure tourism, as a post-pandemic phenomenon. As Kashmir's charm gains momentum, it finds unwavering support from both the Central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

The Charm Of The Land

The region's rich culture and warm hospitality are reflected in its vibrant markets, where you can purchase traditional handicrafts, exquisite Pashmina shawls, and intricate carpets. Kashmiri cuisine, celebrated for its aromatic flavours, includes delicacies like Rogan Josh and Yakhni.

However, Kashmir's true allure lies in its serene landscapes. Whether you're taking a stroll through apple orchards, gazing at the reflection of the snow-clad mountains in Dal Lake, or hiking through the pristine meadows of Sonamarg, Kashmir's natural beauty is simply awe-inspiring. Every season, from the blooming spring to the snow-covered winter, Kashmir presents a different facet of its charm.

Frontrunner In Event Tourism

This recognition of Kashmir's beauty aligns with a surge in tourist footfall in the region. In the previous year, a staggering 18 million travellers embarked on journeys to Jammu and Kashmir, a testament to the region's timeless appeal. Furthermore, hosting G20-related events and this year's Miss World program have firmly established the Union Territory as a frontrunner in event tourism.

G20 As A Catalyst 

The recent G20 summit, held against the backdrop of Kashmir's breathtaking vistas, not only catalysed regional tourism but also showcased the region's immense potential as a hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and grand wedding extravaganzas. KB Kachru, Vice President of HAI, emphasised Kashmir's rich history, culture, and unparalleled natural beauty as driving this recent tourism renaissance.
