When it comes to ancient temples and relics, India is home to many with each one being significant in their own regard. And there have been numerous efforts in preserving and recognising each one of them. The country has recently filed the Hoysala Temples of Belur in Karnataka for the Unesco World Heritage status for the year 2022-23.  

These sacred ensembles have long been on the tentative list of UNESCO &mdash since 2014. Currently, all the three Hoysala Temples are protected monuments under the Archeological Survey of India. As per the reports, the UNESCO expert delegation is all set to visit the sites in September-October this year before considering the dossier for inscription. The UNESCO Heritage Committee meeting is slated to happen in July-August 2023. 

The Hoysala Temples are an ancient set of temples exemplifying the architecture of the Hoysala dynasty that ruled between the 11th and 14th centuries. These structures indicate a distinctive style &mdash typically South Indian with hardly any influence from the Indo-Aryan style. These temples have long caught the attention of historians and travellers alike.
