The World Health Organisation recently announced that international travellers would not be prioritised for COVID-19 vaccinations due a limited supply of the jabs.
According to its panel of experts, healthcare workers and 20% of the most vulnerable populations in each country should receive their shots before the inoculation programme is extended to other groups.
"In the current period of very limited vaccine supply, preferential vaccination of international travellers would counter the principle of equity," said a report by WHO&rsquos Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization. &ldquoBecause of this and the lack of evidence that vaccination reduces the risk of transmission, SAGE currently does not recommend Covid-19 vaccination of travellers."
However, it mentioned that travellers falling under the &lsquohigh-risk&rsquo category should be included in the programme.
The panel suggested pregnant women steer clear of the vaccine for now, unless they&rsquore healthcare workers, or suffer from conditions that put them at risk.
